Infinity Bottles
An infinity bottle is one bottle or decanter that you pour a little of many whiskeys into over time, drinking from it along the way, so the blend keeps changing. WhiskCur keeps a log of every pour in and out and works out what's in the blend right now. Infinity bottles are part of Pro.
Starting an Infinity Bottle
- Click the orange + button to add a bottle.
- Turn on This is an infinity bottle at the top of the dialog.
- Give it a Name, like The Everything Bottle.
- Set its Capacity in ml: how much it holds when full. A standard bottle is 750.
- Add a type, rating and photo if you like, and click Save changes.
An infinity bottle only has a name, capacity, type, rating and photo. It has no distillery, price, tag, status, location or tasting notes, and its fill level and ABV come from its pours. A bottle is set as an infinity bottle when you add it, and stays one.
On Basic, the Add dialog shows Infinity bottle with a PRO badge, linking to the upgrade page.
Pouring In
- Click the infinity bottle's name or photo to open it.
- Under Pour log, click POUR IN.
- In Poured from, start typing to search your bottles (opened bottles come first) and pick one. For anything not in your collection, like a friend's bottle or a bar sample, just type its name and add its ABV if you know it.
- Pick an amount: Splash (15 ml), 1 oz (30 ml), 2 oz (60 ml), or type the ml yourself.
- Check the date, add a note if you like, and click ADD.
When you pour from one of your bottles:
| You pick | What happens to that bottle |
|---|---|
| Rest of bottle | The amount is estimated from its size and fill level (change it if you know better), and the bottle is marked Finished, with an entry in its history |
| Any other amount | Left in that bottle lets you set its new fill level, or leave it at Same |
| A pour from a sealed bottle | The bottle is marked Opened, with a history entry |
You can also start from the bottle you're pouring. Open any sealed or opened bottle and click POUR INTO INFINITY next to ADD ENTRY. The infinity bottle opens with that bottle already picked. With more than one infinity bottle, pick which one from the menu.
Pouring Out
Click POUR OUT, pick an amount, and click ADD. Use the note for who you shared it with or how it tasted.
A pour can't put in more than there's room for, or take out more than is in the bottle, on its date. Dates can't be in the future.
The Blend
The bottle view shows the blend as a ring and a list of every source with its share of what's in the bottle now, largest first.
- Pours from the same bottle add up. Three pours from one bottle are one source.
- Pouring out takes a little of everything. Each pour out shrinks every source by the same share, so the mix stays the same.
- Pouring it all out starts a new blend.
Long-running bottles collect dozens of small sources. The ring shows each one: the biggest in color, the rest as thin alternating slices. The list shows the top 10, with Show all for the rest.
Next to the photo:
| Fact | What it means |
|---|---|
| In it now | Roughly how much is in the bottle, and how full that is |
| Est. ABV | The average ABV of what's in it, weighted by how much of each source there is. If some sources have no ABV, it says what share of the blend it's based on |
| Sources | How many different whiskeys are in the blend now |
| Distilleries | How many different distilleries those come from |
| Poured in | Everything ever poured in, and over how many pours |
Blending since under the badges is the date of the oldest pour still in the blend.
Amounts are approximate. They're only as exact as the pours you log, so WhiskCur shows them with a ~.
The Pour Log
Pours are listed newest first. Long logs show the latest 20, with Show all for the rest.
To fix a pour, delete it (click the trash icon, then SURE?) and add it again. A pour can't be deleted if a later pour out would then take more than is in the bottle. Delete or fix that pour out first.
Deleting a pour doesn't change the bottle it came from. If a Rest of bottle pour marked a bottle Finished, change that bottle's status yourself.
Sharing a Picture of the Blend
In your list, click the share icon in the infinity bottle's button bar. WhiskCur makes a picture of the blend, sized for Instagram and phone sharing:
- The bottle's name and photo, and how long it's been blending
- The blend ring and the number of sources
- Est. ABV, distilleries, how much is in it, and how much has been poured in
- The biggest sources and their shares
Click SAVE to download it, or SHARE on your phone to send it to an app. Your pour log and notes aren't on the picture.
In Your List and Statistics
Infinity bottles show an Infinity badge and a fill gauge in your list, and their ABV is the blend's estimate. Their share button sits where other bottles have the notes button.
Every drop in an infinity bottle came from a bottle you already count, so statistics leave infinity bottles out of bottles owned, spend, value and the reports, and give them their own Infinity tile.
If Your Pro Subscription Lapses
Your infinity bottles, blends and pour logs stay, and you can still view them, delete pours and make share pictures. Logging new pours needs Pro again.
