Bottle Scan

Take photos of a bottle's front and back labels, and WhiskCur fills in the Add dialog for you. Bottle scan is part of Pro.

Scanning a Bottle

  1. Click the orange + button to add a bottle.
  2. Tap Scan a bottle at the top of the dialog.
  3. Tap Front label and take a photo of the front of the bottle.
  4. Tap Back label and take a photo of the back. Include the barcode if there is one.
  5. Tap Read the labels. It takes a few seconds.
  6. Check what was filled in, add anything else you track (price, status, rating and so on), and click Save changes.

A scan fills in whatever the labels show:

Field From the labels
Distillery and Product The brand or distillery, and the expression's name
Type Bourbon, Rye, Scotch, Tequila, Rum and so on
Location The state for American bottles, otherwise the country
ABV From the ABV or proof on the label
Age, Size The age statement and bottle size
Batch, Barrel, Store Pick Batch and barrel numbers, and who picked a private barrel

The front photo becomes the bottle's photo. Fields the labels don't show are left blank, so always check the form before you save.

Tip

Don't have the bottle in front of you? Click Type it in instead to fill in the form by hand.

Free Fills From WhiskCur's Bottle List

When WhiskCur already knows a bottle's barcode, the form is filled in from its bottle list instead of reading the labels. This is instant and doesn't use a scan.

The list doesn't have batch, barrel or store pick, since those change from bottle to bottle. To get them, tap Read the labels instead under the note at the top of the form. That reads the same photos and uses one scan.

How Many Scans You Get

Pro accounts get 50 scans a month:

The scan panel shows how many you have left.

Extra Scans

Loading a big shelf? Buy 100 extra scans for $5 from the link in the scan panel. Payments are handled securely by Stripe.

Tips for Good Photos

What's Shared

When you save a scanned bottle, its basic facts (distillery, product, type, location, ABV, age and size) help WhiskCur fill in that barcode for other collectors. A bottle's details only get used for others once they're confirmed, either by the label reader or by more than one collector.

Your price, purchase details, status, rating, notes and photos are never shared. Label photos are sent to an AI service to be read, and aren't shown to anyone else. See the Privacy Policy.
